The Way It Is - Green Splatter Vinyl

Released in 1999, The Way It Is marks a shift toward a more melodic and groove-oriented sound in Glenn Hughes' solo journey. Moving away from the darker tones of Addiction, this album embraces funk-infused hard rock with a lighter, more soulful touch. JJ Marsh co-writes and plays guitar throughout, while Gary Ferguson and Marc Bonilla contribute rhythmic and harmonic depth. Guest appearances by Stevie Salas and Matt Sorum inject additional flair into two standout tracks. Hughes' bass playing is fluid and expressive, complementing his soaring vocals with rhythmic finesse. The album balances introspection with swagger, offering both emotional ballads and upbeat rockers. A cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Freedom" adds a nod to Hughes' psychedelic influences. The songwriting is personal yet universal, reflecting resilience and creative renewal. The Way It Is stands as a confident, genre-blending release that showcases Hughes' versatility. Ideal for fans of rock with soul, funk, and lyrical depth. A vibrant chapter in the evolution of a true rock icon.
