Stop The World / Tony + Bonus Tracks - Anthony Newley 180gram Vinyl. 180g vinyl. Anthony Newley had many talents. The English actor, singer and songwriter was successful as rock and roller, on stage and on screen. As a musician, he reached a dozen placements in the top 40 of the UK singles charts between 1959 and 1962, including No. 1 hits. With his partner Leslie Bricusse, Newley wrote "Feeling Good" (the song was made famous by Nina Simone and was covered by many well-known artists) and in 1964 the title song for the film Goldfinger (alongside John Barry). Bricusse and Newley were nominated for the Academy Award (Best Soundtrack, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, 1971). Newley starred in over 25 films, acted in countless recordings, many TV shows and musicals such as Dr. Dolittle and The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd with. Newley wrote the musical Stop the World - I Want to Get Off with Bricusse. He also directed and starred the show, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. The successful musical ran for 15 months in London and was then performed 551 times on Broadway. This is the Broadway cast album with bonus tracks from the London cast and stayed in the American album charts for 76 weeks, peaking at number 3. The second part of this release consists of Newley's LP "Tony" (1961 number five of the UK album charts) and bonus tracks from Love Is a Now and Then Thing. "Stop the World" and "Tony" are just two of the milestones in Newley's remarkable career that spanned over fifty years. He also directed and starred the show, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
