Candi Staton (Uk)

CD reissue of this release by the talented and soulful singer that totally deserves to be rediscovered. Fantastic tracks halfway between groovy funk and classic soul music. Candi Staton had been lacking a comprehensive collection of her prime Southern R&B material from her glory years, 1969-1973. Like Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding, Staton's voice is the sound of emotion being ripped from the human heart and o?ered, bleeding and broken, pleading and yearning, to the listener. Check out her take on 'Stand By Your Man', her ethereal Grammy-nominated interpretation of 'In The Ghetto' or the soul standard 'That's How Strong My Love Is' to see the power and the glory that this collection represents.
