This Is What We Do

Comprised of virtuoso guitarist Eddie Roberts, Hammond and Rhodes player Bob Birch, bassist Pete Shand and drummer Simon Allen, The New Mastersounds are the funk band of the future. When the four combine, NMS is a force to be reckoned with. They take the hardest-hitting aspects of soul-jazz and combine them with shades of deep house music, creating a unique sound and an epic dance party. These lads from across the pond are skilled musicians and visceral players who are breathing new life into the funk band paradigm. (Review of High Sierra Music Festival Show on JamBase) 'This is What We Do' album review quotes: 'all 12 tracks are as tight as you'd expect with raw and stripped down productions.' (Basic Soul UK) 'After gaining respectability through backing jazz funk masters like Lou Donaldson, and popularity through opening for groups like the Greyboy Allstars, NMS have, on their third release, hit their stride. Much like their American counterparts Soulive, NMS know how to work tight riffs and taut melodies into wild, extended jams.' (Japan Times) 'Tight old-school funk from Britain, with healthy dollops of soul-jazz and a little blues mixed in. It's all instrumentals and all live (no samplers or turntables required, thank you), with a solid 60s/70s sound that'll make you think of The Meters. A rollicking good time!' (KZTU Review)
