ABOUT THE ALBUM
Recorded in Billy's Basement in a suburb of Detroit by Jason Fisher on a mobile console into Pro Tools. To keep the vibe fresh, no more than three takes were done of any track, including overdubs. All vocals sung through a Beesneez Arabella tube mic. Mixed in Logic by producer Mike Shalast at his home studio, and mastered by John Nixon at Ron Rose-Milagro Post. Album photography was done in Detroit's Cass Corridor by Jessica J Trevino, with album design by Eric Freeman. The Big Note is an album full of lyrical twists and turns accompanied by a power trio where the saxophone takes the place normally occupied by the bass guitar. Acting as dual lead and rhythm instruments, the guitar and sax interplay above a bed of tight percussion, often in unusual time signatures, that never fails to keep a groove that rocks. From the countrified lament of the Three Minute Opera to the sly swagger of Poison Ring; from the epic sweep of the title track to the santoor-driven hypnotism of Vincent van Gogh, this album unfolds like a mini novel. Never afraid to step a little outside the box of typical rock and roll, on their debut album the Audionics present a sound scape that is both a homage to the past as well as a step into the future of avant rock.
