Spanish Harlem

King got his start as the lead voice of the Drifters on such hits as "There Goes My Baby" and "Save the Last Dance for Me." He went on to a successful solo career with a string of singles that matched his soulful, smooth and sexy baritone voice with tastefully arranged string sections and Latin rhythms. His singing melts down any divisions between passionate and sophisticated soul, elegant pop, and blues ballads. This quintessential collector's edition contains King's celebrated debut album for Atlantic, Spanish Harlem (1961), produced by the legendary team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. In addition, we have included 10 bonus tracks from the same period which together with the album constitute the definitive overview of this influential soul singer's work.
