New Oakland Burr

English saxophonist John Butcher is one of the most influential improvisers in Europe. He has created a unique style that combines extended playing techniques with multiphonics that sound electronic, even when he plays acoustically. Butcher has worked with Derek Bailey, the Ex, Fred Firth, Butch Morris, and John Stevens. Percussionist Gino Robair brings his unconventional style of drumming to this duo session, playing ebow snare drum and bowing cymbals, sticks and Styrofoam. Robair has recorded with Tom Waits, Anthony Braxton, Terry Riley, Club Foot Orchestra, and Otomo Yoshihide. Butcher and Robair have worked as a duo since 1998, and have recorded as a trio with Miya Masaoka and Matthew Sperry.
