ABOUT THE ALBUM
Although Alexandre Tansman wasconsidered a genius in his lifetime, these recordings demonstrate thatmuch of his chamber music remains tobe rediscovered after years of neglect. Tansman's early successes includedthe prize-winning Romance andlate-Romantic Sonate No. 2, ensuringhis move from Poland into Parisiancultural life. The exploratory character and exquisitepoetry of the Sonate quasi una fantasiacontrasts with the concise FirstSonatine with it's playful Fox-Trot. Despite it's wartime origins the SecondSonatine is bright and buoyant, whilethe Fantaisie is an expressively lyricalproduct of Tansman's final period.
