What The Water Wants

Known worldwide as the voice of Fates Warning and Redemption, Ray Alder delivers a deeply personal and captivating musical statement with What the Water Wants. Originally released in 2019, Alder's first solo album reveals a more atmospheric and introspective side of one of progressive metal's most respected vocalists.Joining Alder are guitarist Tony Hernando (Lords of Black) and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Michael Abdow (Fates Warning), whose performances provide the perfect foundation for an album built on melody, emotion, and thoughtful songwriting. While progressive influences remain throughout, What the Water Wants focuses on concise, memorable songs rather than technical excess, making it one of the most accessible releases of Alder's career.Critics praised the album's balance of progressive sophistication and immediate listenability, drawing favorable comparisons to classic-era Queensrÿche while retaining the emotional depth and musical excellence fans expect from Alder's work.Brutal Planet Records is proud to present the first-ever U.S. vinyl pressing of What the Water Wants as part of the exclusive Metal Icon Series.
