Lullaby of Birdland

Saxophonist Lee Konitz' career has been studded with adventurous, unpredictable recordings. He has never been swayed by prevailing tides and currents that have pulled many players off their logical course. He has adhered to the Tristano principle of pursuing the melodic line without recourse to superficial effects. Likewise, the work and philosophy of piano legend Barry Harris imbues a similar resolution of purpose. Bebop was succor to Barry and the music of Bird, Diz, Monk, and Bud provided the basis for the pursuit of a lifetime. To admirers of Lee and Barry the appeal in this vibrant set (specially commissioned for recording live at Birdland in New York City) will be the fascinating juxtaposition of their contrasting styles.
