The Token

Elise Davis' The Token encapsulates a gentile Arkansas twang pushed to the foreground by skeletal rhythmic backdrops and churning, distorted guitar textures. Story and storyteller are one and the same. "I have trouble speaking about my vulnerable feelings to someone - especially men I've had feelings towards over the years," she confesses, "but I have no trouble writing down the most painfully honest lyrics and sharing them with the world." Throughout The Token, this honesty drives the exploration of the societal pressures of Southern roots against the modern perceptions of a woman.
