ABOUT THE ALBUM
Nashville singer, songwriter, and guitarist Patrick Sweany releases Baby It’s Late, his first full-length record since 2018's Ancient Noise. Sweany turned to two frequent collaborators to help: JD Simo and McKinley James. Both have home studios and were able to enlist some of the most in-demand players in Nashville to be on the sessions: Ted Pecchio on bass, Robbie Crowell on keyboards, Adam Abrashoff and George Sluppick on drums, and Amber Woodhouse on backup vocals. "We tracked almost everything in a couple days, with the full band live on the floor - old school," says Sweany. "(These players) know when it's right and when it's not; If they felt like the performances weren't good enough, they'd stop things and tell me. The sessions were loose and fun, the way music should be made." Featuring ace players from two of his Nashville side-projects (the 50s/60s era blues combo Tiger Beats, and the soul/funk quartet Super Felon), Baby It’s Late is a pastiche of Sweany's wide-ranging influences and history, incorporating classic rock, soul, country and, of course, a massive dose of vintage blues. Sweany produced the record himself - a first in his storied career.
