ABOUT THE ALBUM

'Philly to LA transplant Jason Karaban's Doomed To Make Choices is by far one of the best records of the year. For Jason's first solo album, he's got folks helping out like Ani Difranco, Dave Pirner, and Ivan Neville. But, they all take a back seat to Karaban's powerful, melodic songs.' - Bruce Warren - Program Manager, 88.5 WXPN, Philadelphia Don't worry. This isn't going to be your usual lengthy, garrulous, drawn out bio outlining the brooding artist's tumultuous past, the record deal gone bad and all the gripes in-between. There's no need to revisit a past that is no longer relevant. What matters is the music you're listening to now. So, this will be brief. We'll spare you the unimportant details and give you the quick history of the genesis of Jason Karaban's first solo record. It all starts with producer Mike Napolitano. Seemed that a lot of records Jason was listening to over the past few years had his name on them (Joseph Arthur, Jeff Klein, Twilight Singers). He made it his mission to track him down. A chance meeting with Greg Dulli in a liquor store parking lot got Jason Mike's number. After a few phone calls and an onslaught of demos, Mike agreed to produce the record. That was September 2005. From that point forward, Jason spent the next 5 months recording the record in bits and pieces; traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans to Minneapolis to New York and back to New Orleans where the record was finally completed in January of 2006. Throughout those 5 months, Jason was fortunate to have crossed paths with an incredibly talented group of artists, all of whom graciously lent their talents to help make the record possible. To name a few: Ani DiFranco, Dave Pirner (Soul Asylum), C.C. Adcock, Ivan Neville (Keith Richards, Neville Brothers) David Immerglück (Counting Crows) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello) all made significant contributions throughout the record. Since it's completion, Jason's been busy getting the record out there. Already, 3 songs have been getting airplay on KCRW (Los Angeles) and WXPN (Philadelphia) and 4 songs have been placed in the feature film, Novel Romance. In addition, Jason's songs can be heard on various networks, including NBC, ABC, MTV and VH-1. So there you have it. Don't think, just listen...
