Sleepy Soldier finds Tanna Leone pushing the boundaries of his creative expression while embracing a certain emotional complexity in his storytelling. The core message of the album is love, humanity and endurance. He likes to describe it as “human music” – honest about the span of emotions we all go through in a single day on this planet – all the sadness, disappointment and stress, but also the joy. In a perfect counterpart to that vast scope of feeling, Sleepy Soldier offers up such sonically eclectic tracks as “Picasso” (a punk-leaning anthem that transforms frustration into pure catharsis) and “Death n’ Taxes” (a gorgeously ethereal, guitar-laced piece graced with wisdom Tanna gained during a mind-expanding trip to the ocean).
