From The Beginning

Marc Bouchkov's From the Beginning is a personal exploration of the violinist's musical identity, centerer on the enduring influence of Jascha Heifetz. With pianist Julien Quentin, Bouchkov draws on the remarkable breadth of repertoire associated with Heifetz, from Albéniz, Ponce and Debussy to Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Gershwin. Alongside Heifetz's celebrated transcriptions are works by Kroll and Mendelssohn, Heifetz's own When You Make Love to Me, written under the pseudonym Jim Hoyl, and Bouchkov's original composition Facets. Together, the program reflects the elegance, virtuosity and curiosity of Heifetz while revealing the diverse influences that have shaped Bouchkov's own distinctive musical voice.
