ABOUT THE ALBUM
In his book "The Big Bands" George T. Simon recounts how bandleader Harry James found a replacement for his vocalist, Frank Sinatra in March 1940. He found him quite by accident one afternoon when the band was rehearsing in New York at the World Transcription Studios at 711 Fifth Avenue. Larry Shayne a music publisher brought along a young song writer to audition some tunes. Harry listened, then turned to Shayne and said "I don't like the tunes too much, but I sure like the way the kid sings". The kid was Dick Haymes who went on to become one of America's leading song stylists. This CD Features Dick at his best backed by some of biggest names of the period. They include Benny Goodman And His Orchestra, Victor Young And His Orchestra, Helen Forrest, The Andrews Sisters, Camarata And His Orchestra, The Song Spinners and Bing Crosby's backing group The Ken Darby Singers.
