Live at the Bluenote

(2-CD set) Many people believe that this was the orchestra's finest period and whatever the rights or wrongs of this point of view there can be no doubt that by the time these live broadcast recordings were made most of the orchestra's major compositions were already in place. It is fascinating to see the ebb and flow of musical style as both musicians and instrumental lineups changed, finely honing some of the greatest compositions created exclusively for a jazz orchestra.
