ABOUT THE ALBUM
Ray Eberle was born on January 19th 1919 in Hoosick Falls, New York State. He was the younger brother of Jimmy Dorsey's singer, Bob Eberle. Ray became Glenn Miller's "young man in the romance department". This CD was originally going to be called "Ray's Romantic Hits", but on revueing the discography we realized that this selection of songs with the Glenn Miller Orchestra was so much more. Every track on this CD was featured in the top ten hit parade, thirteen of them at number one, a feat that very few artists could have duplicated. Ray even edged out Frank Sinatra in 1940 and 1942 in "Billboard" magazine's college survey of the No.1 male band vocalists! Strangely, for such a successful singer Glenn eventually sacked him for turning up late to a studio date. Later the two of them were reconciled and although Glenn was tragically destined to die a year or so later, Ray continued his relationship with the band when Tex Beneke became leader even though he had joined the Gene Krupa band and was to form his own band in 1951. Ray Eberle died of a heart attack on August 25th 1979 in Douglasville, Georgia.
