ABOUT THE ALBUM
A Fulsome Assemblage Of The Esteemed West Coast Outfit, Renowned For Their Songwriting And Vocal/Instrumental Blend. Produced In Co-Operation With The Band, This The First Time The Pbc Catalogue Has Been Brought Together In Such An Exhaustive Fashion. 118 Remastered Tracks With 36 Previously Unreleased, Including A Full Live Performance From 1967. Despite their memorable name, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy remain one of the most underappreciated outfits of their time. Fusing folk-rock jangle with exquisite vocal harmonies and psychedelic experimentation, the Los Angeles-based group forged a distinct sound and identity across three albums and numerous 45s between 1966 and 1970. Characterized by lush vocal arrangements and an innovative instrumental accompaniment, The Peanut Butter sound captured the era's spirit, yet somehow failed to achieve the commercial success of their contemporaries. Equally comfortable on the stages of San Francisco's psychedelic ballrooms or within the slick recording environs of Hollywood, the band's unique contribution to the vintage West Coast rock scene remains deserving of greater recognition and appreciation. Covering all the material made under the PBC name, 'The Most Up Till Now' was assembled by aficionados Alec Palao and Gray Newell in collaboration with Alan Brackett, who granted unprecedented access to his personal vault. As well as the full complement of the band's official releases for Columbia, Challenge and Vault, the set also features many of the soundtrack recordings that their three singers participated in at the behest of producer Stu Phillips. These tracks are supplemented by an exciting array of demos, outtakes, alternative versions, home recordings and a previously unheard live performance from 1967 that demonstrates that the PBC could effectively deliver their distinctive vocal/instrumental blend in person as well as the studio.
