Bossa Nova

A protégé of the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim, Brazilian singer and guitarist Ana Caram stands as one of the most luminous and expressive figures in modern bossa nova. Recorded in January 1995 shortly after Jobim's passing, Bossa Nova serves as a poignant, heartbeat-close homage to the maestro's enduring legacy. While her previous Chesky release explored Jobim's lesser-known gems, this album embraces his most beloved standards-delivering classics like "The Girl From Ipanema," "Agua de Beber," "O Pato," and "Chega de Saudade" with a light, intoxicating elegance that avoids cliché at every turn. Caram's delicate vocal phrasing and rhythmic acoustic guitar work bring a deeply personal, effortlessly chic sophistication to each arrangement. From her smooth, French-café style take on "The Girl From Ipanema" to the fun, upbeat rhythm of "O Pato," every track flows with a relaxed, understated grace. Engineered with Chesky's hallmark minimalist recording techniques, the session avoids artificial compression or over-processing, placing Caram directly in your room with incredible spatial intimacy, natural tonal balance, and lush acoustic detail. Bossa Nova will be reissued on 180g One-step Pressing Vinyl LP with new liner notes as part of the Chesky Original Masters series.
