Gaia Wilmer Large Ensemble

Parabolico - Reflections On Gilberto Gil Vol 1

CD

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Gaia Wilmer's music draws on Brazilian traditions while staying rooted in contemporary jazz and improvisation. Her Large Ensemble has toured in Brazil and performed at Lincoln Center. A key part of Gaia's projects is reworking music by Brazilian composers such as Egberto Gismonti, Caetano Veloso, and Gilberto Gil in Parabólico. Gilberto Gil the Brazilian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and politician, is one of the central gures in Brazilian popular music. He is especially known as a co-founder of Tropicália, a movement that reshaped Brazilian music by blending traditional Brazilian styles with rock, reggae, funk, and other global influences. Mónica Salmaso is widely regarded as one of Brazil's leading contemporary singers because she combines deep respect for the Brazilian canon with a highly personal interpretive style. That balance has made her a major gure in modern Brazilian vocal music.
