ABOUT THE ALBUM

This album remains one of the finest debuts of the 90s, a sterling example of a young and hungry hard rock band embracing a troubling new world with swagger and confidence. Along with Brad Sinsel's War Babies, it's a rare glimpse of the kind of dark, moody glam that only the early 90s could've spawned. Asphalt Ballet is a hard-hitting American rock band born in San Diego, California, blending the raw soul of blues rock with the power of hard rock and the grit of Southern rock. Their name says it all: Asphalt Ballet evokes the high-speed drama of a motorcycle crash-metal, motion, and danger sliding across hot asphalt. The band's classic lineup features powerhouse vocalist Gary Jeffries, bassist Terry Phillips, drummer Mikki Kiner, and guitarists Danny Clarke and Julius J. Ulrich. Signed by Virgin Records, Asphalt Ballet exploded onto the scene with their self-titled debut album in 1991. The band dominated MTV's Headbangers Ball, where the video for "Soul Survive" reigned undefeated for over two months, going head-to-head with rock giants like Ozzy Osbourne and The Cult. In 1993, Asphalt Ballet released their second album, Pigs, featuring Tommy Dean on lead vocals, and hit the road with Great White on an extensive tour. Despite lineup changes, the band's reputation for raw energy and authenticity only grew Deeply connected to the biker community, Asphalt Ballet's debut album was featured in the cult film Beyond the Law starring Charlie Sheen. Today, all members are alive and well, with growing buzz around a possible 35-year reunion featuring the original lineup-potentially roaring back to life at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 2026. Adding to the excitement, a previously unreleased live album recorded in 1991 at Dallas City Limits-capturing the entire debut album plus explosive covers of The Doors ("LA Woman") and Blackfoot ("Wishing Well")-is rumored to be in the vaults.
