ABOUT THE ALBUM

For the past 15 years, Della Mae has been blazing their own trail as one of the most dynamic live acts on the roots music scene. With a Grammy nomination and years of touring under their belts, the female-forward string band delivers a career defining album with the release of Magic Accident. Long time champions of women in roots music, Della Mae teamed up with producer Alison Brown for the new release and their first for Nashville-based Compass Records. Magic Accident showcases the breadth of the quartet's talents, from Americana tracks that echo early Chicks, to hard-driving bluegrass and ethereal indie folk inspired cuts. The band's vocal power and instrumental prowess shine throughout on the set of mostly original songs with stand outs including "Out Run 'Em" penned by guitarist Avril Smith and featuring champion fiddler and band founder Kimber Ludiker, "Lifeline" sung by bassist Vickie Vaughn and the title track, written and sung by Celia Woodsmith. Special guests on the project include Mary Bragg (vocals) and Jen Gunderman (accordion) with Brown contributing banjo and guitar throughout. Since forming in Boston in 2010, Della Mae has proven to the roots music world, once and for all, that a band of all women is not a mere novelty. Their 2013 Rounder Records release This World Oft Can Be earned Della Mae their first Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album. The same year, the International Bluegrass Music Association named the band Emerging Artist of the Year. Della Mae has performed in more than 30 countries on behalf of the U.S. State Department. They are favorites on the roots music circuit where their high energy performances regularly bring audiences to their feet, inspired by the power of their music and message.
