Beautiful and intense imagery, stories, reflections, and cautionary tales populate this debut singer-songwriter offering. Acoustic sounds simply frame each track, leaving plenty of room for Robin's one-of-a-kind vocals and shining lyrics. Tales of tragedy and hope weigh in the balance; stories that stir a haunting chill pop against sweet sentiment, longings and odds-defying determination. Classic Country (Without Tears,) modern Country sounds (These Bare Hands,) and true folk tales resound with obligatory, yet fresh, renderings of common themes: a train song (In This Town, which features an unfortunate twist in leavin' town;) Captured, a bird-themed song (like none you have heard;) Hope Stands, (a ghostly picture of the sad, lonely void created by substance abuse;) and a hopeful admonition to Move On. Songs wishing farewell to love, patience and to time are frosted with the urgent sense that we all have light to offer the difficult, beautiful place called Earth, as the record closes with rolling, soft waves in Stars Weep. The title track, What I Didn't Say, dares to give voice to the moments when no words are to be found; in a sense, the whole album does just this. Having neglected her muse for many long years, Robin Monterosso's songwriting journey finally began at the age of 47. Upon realizing that it's kind of hard to encourage your kids to grow up discovering and pursuing their passion in life if you yourself never go after your own passion, she jumped in. There is no shortage of story and poetic wondering; they are continually streaming from the assortment of pens and pencils that litter her home, car, and revolving cast of purses and tote bags. Good ole' paper and pen mostly always at hand, she sometimes finds that technology isn't so bad. In fact, voice memos create an ocean of thought to be plundered and nearly drown in. She's written nearly enough material for the next record or two already, and hopes to find her songs populating the folk circuit, as she has also discovered a love of performing that would never have been realized, save for writing.
