ABOUT THE ALBUM

While singer Sandy Graham loves performing in small intimate clubs, she has won the audience's rapt admiration in the big stage settings. The lush, smoky voiced singer is comfortable with any size group from her own trio to big bands such as Juggernaut, Bill Berry's L.A. Big Band and the Gerald Wilson Orchestra. Countless credits fill her resume, notably her selection by the legendary jazz writer Leonard Feather to appear on a bill with Dizzy Gillespie, a featured artist spot in the Playboy Jazz Festival Summer concert series, a headliner tour throughout Germany, Italy and Switzerland with the Duke Ellington all-stars, and also an appearance at the Paradise Valley Jazz Festival with Jazz greats: Sir Roland Hanna, Michael Moore, Bobby Rosengarden, David 'Fathead' Newman, Clark Terry and Mundell Lowe. The Blue Jay Jazz Festival found her in more good company, appearing with Al Grey, Stacy Rowles, Conte Candoli, Richard Reid, Bill Conliff and Paul Humphries. 'Graham is a poised and ingratiating performer who brings a graceful hint of early Carmen McRae to her ballads'.... Leonard Feather. A. James Liska found her '...a beautiful singer.... sings with strength and confidence exuding good feeling from note one.....' ...'Sandy Graham has a warm, sensuous voice. Her timing is spot on and the subtle twists and turns in her phrasing make her that comparative rarity, a real jazz singer. She has the ability to set the mood for each of her selections and tell a story with every song she sings'...Derek Ansell, (Jazz Journal International) '....Warm, sensual, sexy, devil-may-careish, funny and fun'...(The Jazz Review).... ....What more could you ask? Perhaps only that the stately Ms. Graham, who is indeed beautiful to see and hear---has TV credits in music, modeling and commercials, and she 'loves to work with kids.' In other words, she is a member of the clinic/concert cadre of Jazz artists. Her latest CD, Comes Love,(featuring the highest quality musicians available, namely Gerald Wiggins, Alan Broadbent, Kenny Burrell, Ron Anthony, Herman Riley, Bob West, and Harold Mason,) has garnered further accolades from Bruce Crowther of Jazz Journal International 'By any standards....this is an outstanding CD... Her sound is leaner and more sinewy but altogether as delightful as Carmen McRae... Graham is a jazz singer, and a first-class one too....She is the genuine article'. He continued with....her inventive turns of phrase are such that she refreshes the songs in ways that other singers can only dream of doing. She has also received rave reviews in Cadence magazine and from jazz critic/writer Scott Yanow.
