ABOUT THE ALBUM
One of the first recordings to be made in the Music Room at Champs Hill, this recording of the piano quartet and quintet by Hermann Goetz (1840-1876), was originally licensed to ASV, and has not been available for some years. Champs Hill is delighted to make this recording with the famous Pro-Arte Quartet available to a new audience. "The performances are as elegant as they are strongly committed" (Gramophone review of the original release) The Pro Arte Piano Quartet was formed in 1989 by members of the renowned Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble. It's repertoire includes lesser-known quartets by Schnittke, Walton, Douglas Weiland and Sally Burgess alongside the familiar masterpieces of Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Faure, Mozart and Schumann. The Strad commented that "the quartet is a group that- with total musical assurance- quietly produces concerts of exceptional caliber."
