ABOUT THE ALBUM

Seiji Ozawa was just at the start of his nearly thirty-year tenure as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1973 whenDeutsche Grammophon captured the young conductor's realization of Hector Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, op. 24, in multichannelsound. New developments in audio playback technology (specifically the multi-channel SACD) since then now allow for hearing thisfascinating and timeless work as all involved in it's recording conceived it to be heard thanks to Pentatone's labor of love in remasteringand re-releasing this recording to market.
