ABOUT THE ALBUM
FLIGHT OF MAVIS Frank Brown-Guitar,Vocal Dave McElroy-Bass Ken Buono-Drums Produced by Al Fichera In 1988,Flight of Mavis was three twenty year old kids who lived on the same street in a suburban Phila- delphia town. They were friends since the second grade. They grew up on Kiss and Cheap Trick and loved the Ramones. They wrote a song about the Loch Ness Monster. They were together for less than a year and had played only a gig or two when they recorded their first record in the summer of 1988.It was released early in 1989 on vinyl and is issued here on compact disc for the first time. The ten songs that made up that original album were recorded in about 40 studio hours, mostly on 'first takes'.With little experience, lots of raw talent. And the good instincts to stay out of their own way,Flight of Mavis made this very cool little record. 'This friends,is the living embodiment of the Amerindie spirit...Today,Flight of Mavis is my favorite band.' Joe Williams Cash Box Magazine 7/15/89 The record served them well. They recieved heavy rotation on many college radio stations. They made it to number one at WEGL at the University of Auburn in Alabama. They got help booking tours from Ian Copeland's Frontier Booking Agency (REM) .They did shows with Sqeeze, the Bodeans and Uncle Tupelo. They toured with Sinead O'Connor at outdoor sheds during the height of her popularity in the summer of 1990.That little record went a long way. 'With little production beyond what's needed to realize the songs,Flight of Mavis, the band's debut album, glows with honest love for the whole wide world of rock and roll.' Tom Moon Philadelphia Inquirer 2/12/89 There are five bonus tracks included in this release. They were recorded in 1990 at Water Music in Hoboken,NJ by John Siket and produced by Gene Holder (DB's).Four of the tracks have never been issued before and one was issued on their 'Spools' CD in a different version.
