Boy Meets Horn

This CD constitutes three sets of recordings, the first being with Rex Stewart And His Orchestra which features Rex Stewart (co), Lawrence Brown (tb), Hilton Jefferson (as), Danny Bank (bs), Hank Jones (p), Milt Hinton (b) and Osie Johnson (d). The second part is Rex Stewart with the Cozy Cole Big Seven which features Rex Stewart (co), Tyree Glenn (tb), Coleman Hawkins (ts), Claude Hopkins (p, cel), Billy Bauer (g), Arvell Shaw (b) and Cozy Cole (d) and finally Rex Stewart And His Friends a band featuring Rex Stewart (co), Joe Venuto (mar), Moe Wechsler (p), Al Caiola (g), Milt Hinton (b) and Don Lamond (d). The repertoire consists largely of music made popular by Duke Ellington and there is also a selection of jazz interpretations of popular standards.
