ABOUT THE ALBUM
Invoking comparisons to The Band, Grateful Dead and Wilco, while drawing on newer influences like Gillian Welch, Dawes and The Avett Brothers, the Philadelphia based Cabin Dogs mix elements of country, blues, jam, folk and bluegrass to create a sound described by some as cosmic back-porch Americana. Formed during a car ride from Ithaca, NY to Philadelphia, the Cabin Dogs (formerly Kwait Brothers Band) are led by twin brothers Rich and Rob Kwait who write most of the songs in secluded mountain retreats from Tennessee to Vermont. As one reviewer opines, their music "makes you want to drive down a country road to a lost swimming hole and enjoy summer to it's fullest." In 2006, the band travelled to Woodstock NY to record Electric Cabin (Woodstock Records). The album was praised by reviewers and generated steady AAA and college radio play as well as some higher profile festival appearances including the Newport Folk Festival and Appel Farm Festival. For the follow up record, the brothers built a backyard home studio (the Cabin) and invited over some old friends including Professor Louie (Rick Danko, Graham Parker) to help paint the soundscape. The result is a collection of songs that are timeless and colorful, melodic and groovy, and among the Cabin Dogs best work to date. Midnight Trail, the new album by Philadelphia's Cabin Dogs, is set for official release in 2011.
