Former jazz and dance band guitarist Bert Weedon will always be remembered as the most important and influential British guitarist of all time, for the multi-million-selling guitar tutorial which he'd written and published in 1957, Play In A?Day. He subsequently became the UK's unlikely first ever guitar hero in 1959, when he charted with his lively cover version of The Virtues' twangy US hit 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle'. This compilation features all his important recordings between 1956-62, notably his original versions of 'Apache' (which of course launched The Shadows' career) and 'Ginchy' (which was popularized in the US by The Ventures).
